Seasonal Tasting Room Associate

Job Summary: Virginia Dare Winery seeks an enthusiastic, professional Tasting Room Associate to join our team. The unique story of Virginia Dare is deep with history, mystery, and legend, so ability to be a superb storyteller, deliver well rounded wine knowledge with visitors, and be the ambassador for the local area will be just what this person needs to succeed in caring for our guests.
Our recently revised tasting program, now hosting guests for an elevated seated tasting experience by appointment, will require the ability to offer a memorable experience, to promote the sales of Virginia Dare Wines, and to grow the Lost Colony Society wine club.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Sales, Service, & Experiences (60%)
Conduct various levels of experiences. Primarily will include sit-down wine tastings or trade/VIP guest experiences. Also may include, but is not limited to, daily public tours, pre-arranged group and/or private tours, & Experiences will be based on company guide outline
Greet guests promptly and warmly; over the phone and in person
Create a memorable experience for all guests
Build relationships by engaging them in authentic, personable conversation
Educate guests on wine, winemaking techniques, and wine history
Explain the stories behind the wines and the winery
Actively promote the sale of our wine, tasting and experiences and non-wine retail merchandise
Responsible to distribute promotional materials to guests
Sell Wine Club memberships
Collect guest contact information
Be consistently professional in all of your communication; verbal, written and non-verbal
Ensure messaging is consistent and is in line with direction given by your manager
Respond to guest inquiries and concerns promptly and with courtesy
Keep up-to-date regarding local events, communicating information as necessary to customers
Serve wine to guest in accordance with company policy and ABC regulation
Keep up-to-date with ABC regulation and adhering to established policies and procedures regarding the handling and service of alcoholic beverages
Keep up-to-date with Inter-state shipping regulations and adhering to established policies regarding the shipment of wine
Daily Operations (40%)
Ensure smooth operations of daily operations; including effective and appropriate communication, successfully managing traffic flow throughout the day and overseeing that guests are being engaged and entertained
Perform opening and closing duties
Responsible for the set-up, tear down and cleaning & reset of tastings and experiences
Work as a team with other associates to reach set daily and monthly sales targets
Responsible for accurately processing transactions on register system of wine and non-wine retail products, wrapping of merchandise, processing forms for shipment of wine and non-wine retail products
Responsible to perform routine maintenance of the sales floor and outside areas throughout shift
Maintain and keep bar, retail, and outdoor areas clean and tidy according to established standards and policies
Maintain and keep accurate inventories- restock supplies for TR and Merchandise areas.
Assist with off-site pourings as requested
Job Requirements:
Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED required. 1-2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Computer proficiency, basic database management, MS Office, (Word, Excel), Internet
RMS, bLoyal experience is ideal, yet not required
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Weekends, Holidays and some evenings required

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
